I have had a desire to create for as long as I can remember. While still in my preteens I had instructions in paper mache, porcelain painting, basic metal working and wood working. My early ambition was to be a mechanical engineer. I served a four-year apprenticeship as a machine tool builder and machinist in Switzerland where I learned all facets of metal working. That included precision machining, some black smithing, welding and fabricating, drafting and machine design.
I immigrated to the USA in 1964 at 21 years of age and worked most of that time since in the metal trades as a machinist, tool & die maker, fabricator, machine design engineer and business owner.
During all that time, I have never lost an appreciation, love and fascination with the colors, shapes and textures of all the materials I was using, imagining their potential for visual artistic expression.
Maturing and reflecting on the pains, disappointments, disillusioned expectations and losses have brought me to where I am driven to create art that reflects my current view that there is always some hope, because we have the gift of being able to perceive things as beautiful. To see, touch or hear them.
