About the Artist

Dawn Hemstreet grew up fascinated by how things are made. Starting early with making things with her hands she loved jewelry, gemstones & fashion. She completed Metal smithing 1 at Oregon College of Arts and Crafts in 2011 and continued her jewelry making education taking metal smithing & metal clay workshops every year from 2010. She has taken classes from world renowned metalsmiths like Andy Cooperman, Jeanie Pratt, Jan Harrell, Anne Havel, Merry Lee Rae, Pam East, Celie Fago & more. A thirst for new ideas and techniques have helped her find her voice & explore outside her comfort zone. In October of 2025 Dawn was featured on a Podcast called Slowmade episode 84. This podcast highlights jewelry makers and the business of jewelry craft. It’s a fun and personal conversation about being an artist after an early career in Nursing and Development. Many high level jewelry artists have been featured on this podcast and Dawn is honored to be included.

Dawn is and educated nurse (RN/BSN) and spent much of her early adult years caring for cancer patients and hematology patients in Oregon, New York & Colorado state. Her experience at the bedside has helped her realize that life is precious and the human spirit is endless. The depth of the work she has done shows in her designs and the symbology used in her sculptural jewelry pieces.

She has a diverse set of inspirations that lead to interesting design and innovative use of metals. A chronic rule breaker she is never willing to take the “rules” too seriously and often stumbles upon new and innovative ideas and design in her medium.

Artist Statement

My jewelry tells the story of a precious moment in time. A moment where I am reminded of oneness, abundance and awe. My designs bring attention to that simple moment and the importance of it with awareness. Each piece is a tiny sculptural representation of a time where I felt most connected to myself, the world & others.
