About the Artist

For Linden, art isn’t a profession, it is a way of life, art IS life. Never content with competency in one medium, she challenges herself constantly. This obsession directed and empowered her to work professionally as a photographer, potter, sculptor, jeweler, printmaker, and painter in both oil and watercolor.  For her these studies inform each other and contribute to the whole, giving her a multifaceted perspective in whatever media she elects to undertake.

After earning her BFA from Pacific Northwest College of Art, she moved to the Bay Area where she started an art school. The Linden Tree Art School in Benicia, California still thrives and in 2022 was voted the “Best Art School in Benicia”.

Her work is represented by Imogen Gallery in Astoria, OR, online at ArtPal.com/Linden and Lunaria Gallery in Silverton, OR.

Painting in 10 Easy Steps

Step 1:   Sit down with a cup of coffee or tea and turn on music that fits your mood

Step 2:   Empty brain

Step 3:   Find a blank canvas or paper

Step 4:   Pick up your drawing/painting implement in your non-dominant hand

Step 5:   Find a spot on the canvas that needs filling

Step 6:   Place drawing/painting instrument on that spot

Step 7:   Re-empty brain

Step 8:   Draw/paint something and see where it leads

Step 9:   Sit in a comfortable chair and look at it from a distance of 2 feet or more, keep rotating work 90 degrees until you find something interesting

Step 10: Repeat steps 5-9 until it speaks to you and you KNOW it is finished.

In reality, interruptions are constant, your mind wanders off track, your dog wants out, someone comes to the door, the phone beeps, you decide you aren’t really an artist afterall. (What were you thinking?) You spend most of this valuable time bringing yourself back to the process.  As much as others may think making art is simple and easily done, I’m here to say: “Not so much.” The Creative Process is one of the most complex and compelling endeavors we can undertake. I liken it to both self administered brain surgery and psychoanalysis.  And yet, we cannot NOT do it.
